Since then, this Syndrome has claimed the lives of many individuals of all races, nationalities, and sexual preferences. As more and more individuals are being diagnosed with this illness each year, it is very important that health practitioners understand the virus.

It is now more important than ever that health care practitioners focus their attention to the important care required for these infected individuals. As the healthcare provider most easily accessible to the public, pharmacists in community settings have a unique opportunity, when trained, to impact referral for HIV testing and early intervention for HIV-infected patients. By so doing, better clinical outcomes can be achieved for HIV patients.
Upon completion of this continuing educational activity, the participants should be able to:
  1. Identify practice settings where clinical pharmacists play key roles in delivering care to HIV-infected patients.
  2. Identify areas of pharmaceutical care expertise where primary care providers often require the advice of HIV pharmacists.
  3. Gain enhanced skills for handling drug information requests and pharmacokinetic consultations from providers of HIV care and so contribute to improvement of clinical outcomes through more useful advice.
